There are some toys and baby items that go beyond mere favourites, they are trusted favourites, true classics. The ones that you would immediately recommend to a friend, or that you remember from your own childhood.
When I was pregnant with my first child I remember my Aunt gifted me with a this special baby seat. It was soft and fuzzy, almost like a lambskin, and it was made to cradle and hold a baby from the earliest days. It took batteries; it played soft music and gently vibrated when you turned it on. It was made by Fisher-Price and was pretty much identical to what they are now selling as the Snuggabunny Bouncer, aside from the fact that it had a little dangling rabbit where the current model has a bird mobile.
My Aunt told me that she loved using it with her grand daughters and that it was the one thing that would settle and soothe them. But I was still leery about this chair thingy at first. I hadn’t asked for it. It wasn’t on my registry. And it took batteries. I thought to myself grumpily “Why the heck does a chair need to take batteries, or sing, or vibrate?”
All you moms out there are probably shaking your heads and laughing at how clueless I was in those pre-baby days. As you might guess, once G-Girl was on the scene this chair become one of my favourite things ever. Hubby and I referred to it as the magic chair. And when my rather cranky baby number two came along that chair became my lifeline. The “magic chair” was my sanity saver. If I had to set her down, that’s where I did it. And when I absolutely needed her to nap, that’s where I put her.
So my Aunt, she was definitely on to something. That chair tops my personal list of must have baby items. When I become an Aunt myself, that is if my brother ever gets around to having kids, I know the first gift I’ll be purchasing will be the deluxe version of the “magic chair”, the Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle N Swing.
Though my girls have moved past the magic chair phase they certainly haven’t outgrown Fisher-Price. I have always had a soft spot for Fisher-Price Little People. Growing up in the 70s and 80s the classic Little People were some of my favourite toys. I actually have a bit of a vintage toy collection and I like to occasionally bring out the old classic Little People to play with alongside my girls, always under careful supervision. But as much as I have a bit of an obsession for fond memories of the classic Little People, I will be the first to admit that the new style Little People are utterly adorable.
Fisher-Price is one of those brands that I intrinsically trust to provide a high quality item that I know my kids will love. The Little People Animal Sounds Farm was the first Fisher-Price Little People set that my girls received. It was an unexpected Christmas gift from one of their great-Aunt’s, and since it first arrived in our house some four years ago it has seen some serious action. Both of my kids went through stages where piling all of the animals into and then releasing them from the silo, over and over again, was the height of hilarity. As a kid at heart I am crazy about Little People, and I love having children of my own to play with them with. As a mom, what I love is how durable and easy to clean the Fisher-Price Little People sets are.
