Planning a Family Getaway During Winter Break

November 5, 2016 by aeryn lynne Leave a Comment

Winter break is one of the best times of the year for families to travel and experience different places around the world. Since many people feel the same way, it can be a little tricky to plan the perfect vacation in a short amount of time. However, people can plan a successful vacation if they take a little extra time and plan accordingly.

The first thing that a family wants to do when they are planning a vacation during winter break is to begin the planning a few months in advance. By planning earlier, families have more choices available to them. If it is really close to winter break and the planning hasn’t started yet, that is okay, it will just be a little more work finding the perfect destination with available hotels.

The entire family should decide together where they want to go on vacation. This may or may not be an easy process, depending on everyone’s likes and dislikes. Families that live in colder climates may want to go somewhere warmer, whereas people who live in warmer climates might be looking for a little snow and cold.

The possibilities are endless, or at least as endless as the number of cities in the entire world. A few choices for colder weather are Colorado, Canada, Vermont and Massachusetts. All of these options have skiing, snowboarding and numerous other outdoor winter activities available. Some choices for warmer climates can include Florida, South Carolina, California and the Caribbean. These places are perfect for families who are looking for some time in the sun and the sand or at some of the famous amusement parks.

Once the destination has been chosen, families will need to decide whether they will drive or fly to their destination and where they will stay. It is usually recommended to drive if the destination is not too far from home and to fly when the distance is greater. Since winter break is so short, many families decide to take a plane and fly. If this is what a family chooses to do, then it is important to purchase the airline tickets as soon as possible, to get a cheaper price. There are many different hotel options and many times families will choose to rent a place that has a kitchen area, so that they can make meals and save money instead of eating out at restaurants.

When it comes to packing, families will need to pack clothing for the climate that they are visiting. Even if a family is going somewhere warm, they may want to pack some warmer clothes just in case it is cooler than planned. Children will also need something to do while traveling, whether by car or plane, so a small carry-on bag filled with games and activities is necessary. Adding snacks to this bag will also help prevent meltdowns when it is snack time.

To save even more time on vacation, families can also purchase any tickets for activities ahead of time, so that everything is ready when they arrive at their destination. This means that the entire family will be able to have fun right away instead of waiting in lines.

Planning the perfect vacation for winter break can be time consuming and frustrating, but if families plan accordingly, they can have an amazing experience during their vacation. Families who spend more time during the planning process will find that they can have more fun and less headaches during their time away.
