I’m a breastfeeding advocate. It hasn’t always been this way. Eighteen years ago when I had my first son I managed to breastfeed for only a few weeks. I remember those exhausting days of pacing the floors waiting for his bottle to warm up as he cried in my arms. I’m much more rested now that I have mastered nursing my little ones, yet our newest little guy (already 18 months) is still nursing like a newborn. I could give you a million reasons why but really it doesn’t matter to me, this is what he needs so this is what I do. Very soon I will be attending a trade show, two days in a row for 7 hrs per day. I found myself anxious and almost backing out …what will I do. Rather what will he and my husband do? Now I know this is backwards but I thought why not try a bottle? (yes he is 18 months and drinks out of sippys and even small cups) but I was thinking more for the comfort why not a bottle of warm milk? So I tried it…and….he liked it. I don’t know how their day will go but I feel more comforted knowing it is an option.
When my oldest was born I used AVENT products. It was a brand I knew and trusted. I checked the website and saw many changes that I liked, first of all they offer amazing support for parents. You can sign up and receive personalized tips, advice and exclusive offers. You can sign up for free at Philips AVENT. If you sign up before baby’s first birthday you’ll even receive $37.50 in coupons.
I felt crazy opening the box to the bottle warmer but I was so excited (almost like a new mom). The packaging put me at ease the minute I laid eyes on it. Over and over again it said things like “with 30 years of experience we understand how important your breast milk is for your baby”, and “Philips AVENT bottle warmers ensure gentle and even warming, keeping the nutrients and vitamins of your milk at the best quality.” All things that this breastfeeding mama loved to hear. This company knew me and even more than that, they cared.
The nitty gritty of it? I loved it! It warms a bottle in three minutes and has many options. The product grows with baby suiting their needs at the moment. It has settings for defrost, which never warms but just turns milk into a liquid state. It’s great for warming baby food, small bottles or larger ones. The only thing I would change is perhaps having a timer on the product itself. I’m busy (and forgetful….I’ve put stuff in the oven forgetting to put on the timer) so I would find this helpful for those of us who have lost too many brain cells, like myself.
The bottle I used was the natural glass bottle. Oh how I love this bottle! Being a somewhat crunchy mamma I shy away from plastic when I can. I have always loved the idea of glass bottles but they were so heavy and scary back in the day. Not this guy! In 2014, Philips AVENT launched the Natural Bottle in Glass. Offering consumers all the same benefits as the original Natural Bottle, the Glass bottle is made with premium borosilicate type 1 glass material (pharmaceutical
grade), which is thermal shock and heat resistant. It features an innovative advanced anti colic system and a wide breast like shape. It was easy for Mister E to latch on. Soft and easy for him to hold even with his wee little hands (at 18 months my bean is still comfy in 12 month clothing).
And let me tell you this bottle takes a beating! Between him and his brother this thing has hit the floor at amazing speeds and there’s not even a crack. Don’t let it’s invincibility fool you though — it still hurts when it comes crashing down on your foot, so watch your toes!
The Phillips AVENT Fast Bottle Warmer retails for $49.99 and is available at Babies R Us.
The Natural Bottle in Glass retails for $12.99 and is available at Babies R US, Baby Specialty, Sears and Amazon.ca.
