I was looking at today’s Groupon deal for Windsor… $30 for a $75 family membership to the local Science Museum, Canada South Science City (valid for up to two adults and three children, regular price $75), when I came to the realization that this deal was FAR BETTER then it originally appears.
Originally I was thinking, this probably isn’t the best deal for me, as I can’t see visiting Science City more then once in a given year, and admission for my family would only run me $22 (Two adults at $8 each, one 3+ child for $6 and one 2 and under child for free).
Then I read the fine print: Membership includes admission for one year, advanced invitations to special events, access to members-only events, free parking and free admission to 28 other science centres.
Hm… I wonder which other museums this might include?
I took a look at this list and I was excited to see that it includes the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa , which I have been to before and frankly It Rocks. Unfortunately, I just don’t think a family trip to Ottawa is in the budget this year. So this deal still isn’t worth it for me, but I thought it might interest some of you out there.
Things to note:
While you don’t have to be local to take advantage of this one, there are some limitations in place. You could buy this discounted pass to Canada South Science City, and strictly use it to access other Canada museums.
However, pay attention to the fine print: “if you live in one area, you cannot purchase a membership from a centre outside of 150 km of your home, to use at the centre located closest to you.” So basically, if you live with 150 kms of one of the other museums in the list, you can’t purchase the Windsor deal.
However if you live in the Windsor area and are planning on visiting any of the cites on the list, this is a pretty darn good deal.
Here’s the list of other particpating museums:

Also, this Friday is membership appreciation day at Canada South Science City. The blurb says they will be “celebrating our members with small gifts and refreshments – Bring in your membership card to receive a package full of exciting goodies!”, Fri. Feb. 11th, 10am to 5pm.”
Hm… Year round access to Science City, free access to other museums if I manage to travel this year, and a bag full of goodies… Maybe I will take advantage of this deal after all.
