Santa brings my girls stocking full of sensible treats, and tiny presents. For example, this year Rocket got avocados in her stocking, while her older sister received oranges and Babybel cheese. Then a week later my husband and I exchange our stocking on New Years Eve. Stocking overflowing with junk food. Chocolate mainly.
We used to exchange the stocking on the morning of January 1st, but then came to the realization that waking up hung-over to tons of sweets was unappetizing, if not downright stupid, so now we fill them on December 31st.
We wait until after Christmas to do our stockings because all the goodies go half price for Boxing Day week. I went into Shoppers and spent under $50 for two BAGS full of chocolate. I put some out for our New Years party, and then filled my husbands stocking to the brim and then some. At half price I can justify buying truffles and mint sticks. Yum.
Here is our pile of goodies minus what I put out for guests and what we’ve already consumed. A distressing amount is already missing, given that today is only the 2nd!

This is what $50 worth of chocolate looks like. |
Now to see how long I can make mine last….
Yummers! this is best holiday tradition I have ever heard of! mmmmmm…..mint sticks!! you rock!
Look up “mother goodie” and ” Campobello island New Years” you might find your tradition is not completely wacky.
How cool! First time I’ve heard of Mother Goodie. I had a fun time reading up on this tradition. Thanks for telling me about this, Kimberly.
