Springtime and Pediped shoes go together like the peanut butter and jelly on my kid’s favourite sandwich. Two years back I reviewed Pediped’s Flex Darcy from their Adventure Line. It was my first experience with “water play shoes”. And those shoes, which were designed to take dunks and splashes in stride, were my daughter’s favourite footgear ever. They were still in great shape after she outgrew them, and they went on to be all-time-favourites with her younger sister as well.
Far superior in my children’s eyes to sandals or flipflops, these were light breathable runners that you could wear all day at school or while out running errands, and then take for a few jumps in the sprinkler or for a beachside adventure. They worked well with socks, but both kids assured me they were even better with summertime bare feet. Those shoes have travelled with us, and have been on countless splash pads and water play areas, always drying out quickly, ready for the next adventure.
Disclosure: Pediped provided me with a complimentary pair of waterplay shoes to review. Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. If you make a purchase through one of those links I get a small commission at no cost to you.
So I was pretty excited when Pediped sent us a pair of Flex Racers to review. Similar to the Darcy (which is a style that is no longer offered), these lightweight, breathable, runners can double as sandals and are perfect for any adventure, from a trip to the splashpad to a day at the mall.
Here’s why they rock:
1. These shoes are WATER SAFE and designed to take dunks and splashes, which makes them perfect to wear poolside, or at the beach.
2. They are MACHINE WASHABLE. Toss them in the washer and then air dry. I’ve yet to have a need to run our newest pair of Pedipeds through the wash, but I can say from previous experience that these should wash up like a dream.
3. The FLEX FIT SYSTEM allows the shoe to grow a bit with your child’s foot, making the shoe’s comfier and longer lasting. Each pair comes with an extra 2mm insole sized to fit perfectly to that shoe. You remove the insoles from the shoes and slip these underneath. Putting the insole in makes the shoe feel about half a size smaller. As your child’s foot grows and the shoe starts to feel tight you simply remove the extra insole, providing extra space and making the shoes fit for longer.
Gigi was ridiculously excited when her new Flex Racers arrived in the mail and insisted on wearing them immediately. She loves the comfy Mary Jane style and the easy to use velcro. She’s been wearing them to school every day with socks but has already told me that she simply can’t wait for warmer weather when she can wear these with bare feet and jump around at the splash pad.
Overall, I love Pediped shoes for the quality and durability. I love the way the Flex Fit System allows the shoes to fit for longer, and in the long run, saves me money on footwear. My kids love Pediped runners because they are ultra lightweight and breathable. We both appreciate the fact that shoes from their Water Safe line can get a little wet (or heck, even soaked right through) and dry up nicely.
