Tim Hortons new Real Fruit Smoothies { Review }

March 19, 2011 by Deanna Tousignant 13 Comments

Have you tried the new Tim Hortons Real Fruit Smoothies yet?  I had a chance to give them a taste test, and I have to say: YUM.

I wanted to try the Mixed Berry first, but I was with my husband and as driver, and drive-through order placer, he got to choose and he went with the Strawberry Banana.  We ordered a medium and paid the additional $0.70 for low-fat yogurt to be added.  It came to three-seventy-something, which I was thinking is a tad expensive for a drink.  But then I tasted it, and I loved it.  I was originally thinking it would make a nice treat for my three year old, however the truth is my husband and I shared most of it.  I had to use supreme willpower to save some for G-Girl to try.  When I finally did give her some, she was crazy about it. Three-something for a treat that we managed to share between all three of us really isn’t that bad.

I think these will be perfect for those infrequent times when we want to visit Tim Hortons as a family.  While my husband and I are grabbing something caffeinated, I can get something tasty for my little one to drink. I love that these new fruit smoothies are made with real fruit, without any artificial colours or flavours. A small 10oz serving is equal to one full serving of fruit.  If you choose to add  yogurt you can sneak in some dairy as well. Next time I’d probably get a small, which is only $1.99.

Disclosure – I received a Tim Hortons gift card to help facilitate my review. My opinions are my own and were not influenced by the company, or by the free product received.

    I have tried the Strawberry Banana with yogurt added and loved it too. I plan on trying the mixed berry soon. Now when my hubby stops off for coffee I can place an order too!!

    I tried the strw/banana one without yogurt. I thought it was too sweet and didn't taste real. BUT I'm happy to get a small one for my son as it's definitely healthier for him then sipping on my iced caps (which I'm addicted too). Will give the berry one a try.

    The new smoothie has more sugar than a donut. Definitely not a healthy treat for anyone's child!

    Absolutely agree with previous Anonymous. I read in newspaper about new " healthy options" in Tim Hortons's menu and I was happy to purchase for my kids. Bought with yogurt. I tasted it and it was loaded with sugar, and the taste was not good. Disappointed.

    I consider it a treat. Something I would give my child infrequently. Personally, I liked the taste, at least on the Strawberry/Banana one, which is the only one I've tried thus far.Your comment made me curious as to how this would compare vs. an apple juice, which is what I would probably buy my daughter prior to the Fruit Smoothies being introduced. (Unwatered apple juice is a treat as far as she's concerned.)I went and looked up the nutritional calculator on the Tim Hortons website and this is what I came up with:Apple Juice 130 calories, 30mg sodium, 29g sugar, 1g protein, 100% daily vitamin C, 2% daily ironSmall strawberry-banana smoothie without yogurt, 130 calories, 30g sodium, 30g sugar, 35% vitamin c, 2% calciumSmall Strawberry/banana with yogurt, 150 calories, 1g fat, 0.5g sat. fat, 5g cholesterol, 55g sodium, 34g carbs, 31g sugar, 2g protein, 35% vitamin c, 6% calciumSo by those numbers, the small fruit smoothie has one gram more sugar (or two with the yogurt) then the wee bottles of apple juice they sell. Again, doesn't sound like a bad treat.

    I just checked the nutritional info about the new smoothies. There's 31 grams of sugar in a small strawberry/banana smoothie. I certainly wouldn't be having them every day !!!They are very tasty though……

    considering there is no fiber which part of the "real fruit" is in the smoothie… that is generally what is supposed to make a smoothie healthier than juice or is this just juice and crushed ice.

    Good question, and one I don't know the answer to. Anyone else want to chime in?

    I think it's $2.70 plus tax, but it's been a bit since I've gotten one.
