How to Speak to Chinese Mice

January 24, 2011 by Deanna Tousignant 3 Comments

The other day we went out for breakfast with my Dad, and Rainbow decided to impress him with her language skills.

We were just wrapping up our meal when G-Girl proudly proclaimed, “Pip, I have to tell you something. My ‘tend mousies have been teaching me things. They taught me how to say Hello in Chinese!”

At this point I’m thinking she is going to come out with something she picked up on TV.  Like maybe she really does know how to say Hello in Chinese, from having watched Ni Hao, Kai-Lan at my parents place or something.

“Come here Pip, come close and I’ll tell you…” She waited until my father leaned in close and then she shrieked in his ear, emitting a high pitched “Eeeeeek. Eeek. Squuueeek.”

People in the restaurant were staring at us, as I quickly told her to “Hush!”.  I told her is wasn’t appropriate to yell in a restaurant, and that it wasn’t nice to yell in her Pip’s ear.

“I wasn’t yelling Mama, I was squeaking.” she noted the look of dismay on my face and cut off my next sentence with “What?!  That’s how mice talk!”

LOL. My 3 year old "writes in Chinese" which to her is just a bunch of lines across each other. She's trying to imitate the Chinese characters. Which would be fine but she keeps asking me what it says in Chinese. I keep explaining that since she doesn't know how to ACTUALLY write in Chinese, it's not going to ACTUALLY say anything in Chinese.
