Plunge! Aquatic Centre ~ On Site Fun at Blue Mountain

August 6, 2013 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

On the afternoon of our second day at Blue Mountain we took in two of the on resort activities, visiting Plunge! Aquatic Centre and riding the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster.

We had a BLAST at Plunge! The water was warm, the air in the indoor portion was also warm but not humid or stifling, as I often find heated indoor pools to be. High ceilings and floor to ceiling windows made the place feel big and spacious.I know that as part of the summer kids program for Blue Mountain they offer swim lessons at Plunge! Aquatic Centre and I really couldn’t imagine a nicer place to learn to swim. It was the ideal set up for beginners. The entire pool was shallow, it went from varying heights, all of which were shallow enough that I could stand up if I wanted to. The indoor portion of the pool was the shallowest part, and 90% of that was shallow enough that my five year old could reach the bottom. Having such a huge shallow area was awesome. I didn’t need to confine my daughter to a tiny portion of the pool, I could let her roam. She loved it! She also got ridiculously excited about the wide assortment of wake boards and swim goggles available for use.

Part of the pool was indoors, part was outside, and you could swim freely from one section to the other, which was pretty cool. There were several water slides, but my tentative swimmer wasn’t interested in testing them out. I’m not a strong swimmer myself, and I loved that I could stand up anywhere at any point. This is the pool I want in my back yard, darn it!

There was also a splash pad water play area indoors, suitable even for the tiniest of kids. The three year old loved it! Her older sister loved the splash pad area too, that is until she moved past it into the pool area, discovered how shallow it was and didn’t want to get out. Ever. Both kids were sad when I told them it was time to dry off. They would have happily spent the entire day at Plunge!

I can’t see skipping this family activity on our future visits to Blue Mountain, as my kids loved it so much. You can pay for a three hour block, for an entire day, or for a multi-day pass and family rates are available. Check out the Plunge! Aquatic Centre website for full details on hours and rates.

Disclosure: My family was invited to visit Blue Mountain as part of their Family Blogger Retreat. We stayed at the Westin Trillium House and and enjoyed three days as guests of Blue Mountain Resorts. We were given access to Plunge! Aquatic Centre as part of our stay. As always, my words and opinions are my own.
