Family Valentine’s Day Plans with Boston Pizza, Heart-Shaped Pizza & Feel Good Moments

I have plans for Valentine’s Day. Big old plans. I even made reservations. I didn’t book a sitter though, because Valentine’s these days is more about the kids then it is about us.

While I’ll never turn down an excuse for date night, the truth is hubby and I get to go out just the two of us fairly often. My mom, bless her heart, takes the girls overnight pretty frequently. Which means we end up having a night on the town once a month or so.

So come Valentine’s I’m content to leave the romance to the rest of the crowd, and focus on the kids. My girls get more excited about Valentine’s decorations and cards then I ever have, ever, at any point in my life.

Besides, I find there is something romantic about a nice family dinner. One where the kids are behaving perfectly, and you and your husband actually get to take your eyes off of them without worrying they’re about to do something ridiculous, look each other in the face and chat.

In order to get that perfect moment when the kids are happily distracted, I am willing to cheat and stack the deck in my favour. Which is why I’ve made reservations for their favourite restaurant, Boston Pizza. And while I know the combination of favourite eating spot, plus personal colouring books and heart decorations will go a long way towards producing quiet happy kids, I’ve got one more trick up my sleeve. Something that that I am certain is going to wow them – heart-shaped pizzas.

For just one special day a year Boston Pizza sells heart-shaped pizzas.

Heart-shaped pizzas are available in small and medium size, classic or multigrain, and can be ordered for eat in, take-out, or delivery, in any of Boston Pizza‘s standard yummy flavours (have you tried the Butter Chicken pizza yet? my favourite!), or you can create your own combo of toppings. The only catch is they are here for ONE DAY ONLY.

Not only do you get a cute, romantic, tasty, heart-shaped pizza, you also get that warm fuzzy feeling in your heart that comes from knowing you’re helping a good cause, because when you buy a heart-shaped pizza you are supporting children’s charities across Canada. One dollar from every heart-shaped pizza sold at Boston Pizza goes towards their charity initiative, the Boston Pizza Foundation Future Prospects, which supports five different partner charities: the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Canada, Kids Help Phone, the Rick Hansen Foundation, Live Different and Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

If heart-shaped pizza isn’t your thing, or if you’re unable to make it to Boston Pizza on the 14th, you can still help support the Boston Pizza Foundation Future Prospects, and the bevvy of charities they partner with, by donating and getting a heart-shaped peel and win sticker. From now until February 14th if you make a minimum $2 donation to the Boston Pizza Foundation Future Prospects  you’ll get a  Peel and Win Heart with a guaranteed prize. such as $2 off dessert, a free panookie, free pizzatizer, free starter, or $5 off of your next delivery or take-out order of $25 or more.

My plan is to let each kid make a donation and get a Peel and Win Heart to open. Fun for them, and savings for mom — win/win. Then I’m going to sit back and relax with hubby for a few minutes until the food shows up, while the girls focus on their colouring. I’m looking forward to seeing their eyes light up when they see those heart shaped pizzas hit our table. We might even splurge and order dessert, especially if we happen to win one of those $2 off coupons. Sounds like a pretty dreamy Valentine’s Day dinner to me!

What about you folks? See any heart-shaped pizzas in your future? What do you have planned for Valentine’s Day? Do you try and do things with just your spouse, or is it all about family time?

Awww, those are super cute pizzas!! What a great idea. My girls love Boston Pizza, but we usually avoid going out that day because restaurants are so busy. A family Valentine's Day is more realistic than getting away with a babysitter though. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

What a great idea heart-shaped pizzas are. I also love the fact that Boston Pizza gives a dollar from every heart-shaped pizza sold towards their charity initiative, the Boston Pizza Foundation, way to go Boston Pizza 🙂

I really love this idea from BP; it's such an easy way to give back! We often go there to buy a heart pizza to support a great charitable cause 🙂

We've never managed to make it to Boston Pizza for their heart shaped pizzas. We might just have to change that this year! Spicy Perogie coming up! 🙂

WE LOVE boston pizza. Such a great family friendly restaurant. I have never had a heart shaped pizza or been there for Valentine's Day BUT we have been there for MANY other occasions including Family Day and Mother's Day. One year they handed out plants for Mother's Day. I still have photos of that meal. It made me happy!

I love Boston Pizza and especially the way they are so nice to kids. I think a heart shaped pizza would just make the kids day. It doesn't take much to make kids happy. How seet.

I must admit, I have never gone to Boston Pizza for Valentine's Day but have ALWAYS wanted to! Since Valentine's Day is on Sunday this year maybe we'll go! I like the Peel and Win Heart promo. What a great idea and great way to give back.

I was a tiny bit worried it would be crazy busy. That's why I made reservations, something I almost never do.

I seriously love the way Boston Pizza gives back and supports the communities where their restaurants are located. (Also, pizza! Yum!)

This was our first year for heart shaped pizzas. I highly suspect we'll be back next year.

My kids are still young enough to get ridiculously excited over little things, like heart shaped pizza. It really made for a nice family night out.

I know, I am spoiled rotten to have the chance to go out on a date night as often as we do. But family nights out are pretty cool too. Especially when there is yummy pizza involved.

I ended up making reservations for 5pm. With it falling on a Sunday it was so easy to fit in an early dinner out. With the way my husband's work schedule has been, if it had been on a weekday we would have ended up going out much later, or had to skip it entirely.

We went to our local Boston Pizza and had a heart shaped Great White North pizza. It was delicious!
