My family is currently in Pittsburgh on a press trip. Our very first stop? Primanti Bros. This place is known for its unique sandwiches; thick white bread, your choice of meat (or even fish), cheese, coleslaw, tomato, and french fries. The fries aren’t served on the side, but on the sandwich.
When we first decided to plan this trip to Pittsburgh my husband went online and mentioned where we were heading. He immediately had people telling him all of the things we MUST do while here, and eating at Primanti Bros was at the top of the list.
Given all the hype I suspected the food would be good, though I also had a cynical suspicion that the whole fries on the sandwich thing was just a gimmick. Having now tried it I can say this wasn’t just a cute presentation, it was one delicious sandwich, and the fries piled on there worked.
The place is busy. We visited around 1pm on a week day and folks were lining up outside to get in. The turn over is quick. The wait staff is extremely efficient. There are no menus to hand out, everything in printed on the wall — in several places, and easy to see from all seats. There were also no plates, our sandwiches were served on wax paper. The prices were cheap and the sandwiches were delicious.
Unique sandwiches, pleasant bustling atmosphere; I totally recommend this place as a must do for when you’re in Pittsburgh (we visited the original, established in 1933, location on The Strip).
Disclosure: My family was invited to visit Pittsburgh as a press trip. Lunch at Primanti Bros was part of our itinerary. As always my words and opinions are my own.
