No-Rise Cheesy Garlic Beer Bread Recipe

November 7, 2012 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

Check out this Sublime Beer Bread recipe that I picked up from Molson.

I was eager to test it out and delighted to discover I had all of the ingredients on hand. Everything except the beer that is… So we packed up the kids and headed off to The Beer Store.  We could have just went down the way to our neighbourhood store, but we took the time to drive cross the city and visit the giant serve-yourself store.  We hadn’t been to this location in a long while and the trip was well worth it. The selection is fantastic, and I love the self-serve browse through the brews set up.

I don’t think I’ve really mentioned it before, but my husband is a bit of a beer snob. He loves to try out new beers and share his rates online. He is always on the look out for new brews and was happily able to stock up on half a dozen new rates while we were here. (There were plenty more he could have bought too.)

We were also delighted to discover that this location of The Beer Store is now selling select single cans and bottles. I love picking up a can or two of something new to try!

So we got a little off target with our shopping trip to The Beer Store and may have bought a few extra bevvies.

But I did also pick up the Molson Sublime I was looking to use for the Beer Bread recipe. I modified the original recipe a bit. Here’s how I did it:

Ingredients:
3 cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 bottle Molson Canadian 67 sublime
1 tbsp liquid honey
2 or 3 cloves garlic (roughly 1 tbsp minced) – optional
1 tbsp margarine or butter – optional
2/3 cup shredded cheese
cooking spray

1. Preheat oven to 350. Spray 8×4 inch pan with cooking spray.

2. Optional: Mince garlic and place it is a small microwaveable cup. Add enough margarine to cover garlic once it’s melted (a tablespoon or less). Microwave for 2 minutes. You end up with cooked, crispy “roasted” garlic. Scoop out the garlic and leave the margarine behind.

3. In a bowl whisk together flour, salt and baking powder.

4. Make a well in the centre, then add beer honey, garlic and cheese.

5. Stir well, until thoroughly moistened (original recipe specifies that you should use a wooden spoon, I used plastic).

6. Transfer dough to loaf pan, leveling it off.

7. Bake in centre of oven for 45 minutes.

8. Remove bread from pan and allow to cool for 5 minutes. If at this point you want to keep it warm toss a clean dishcloth over top of the loaf to keep the heat in. I strongly recommend serving warm, it’s divine. But room temperature is also an option.

If you are looking for a quick simple recipe to share with guests over the holidays, look no further. This Cheesy Beer Bread recipe is so very easy to make. It tastes heavenly warm and fresh from the oven, and baking it makes your house smell great. I also love that it’s made from everyday on-hand ingredients. Great excuse to keep the house stocked with beer, and for another trip to The Beer Store one day soon.
