Quite a while back, it might have been a year ago now, I won a giveaway from The Healthy Shopper which was hosted over at Did You Know Canada. I won several jars of Simply Natural Pasta Sauce, a coupon booklet and reuseable bag. This was my first introduction to The Healthy Shopper coupon book, and I was impressed. The booklet was full of coupons for an interesting mix of natural and organic products, some personal favourites, some totally new to me. And the pasta sauce? It was our new family favourite.
Over a year ago I started following a low sodium diet, Have you ever looked at the sodium content on your average jar of spaghetti sauce? Typically they range 19-22% of your daily intake. My old previous favourite sauce clocked in at 530mg of sodium in a 1/2cup serving. My new favourite, the Simply Natural Organic Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce has 440mg. Now I have found jar sauces with slightly less sodium then this, but not by much, and they were expensive, and didn’t taste as great as this does. To me this tastes closest to homemade spaghetti sauce, and actually really reminds me of the “from scratch” sauces my mom used to serve when I was a kid. I was pretty excited to find this available at Costco on our last visit; six jars in a bundle and very reasonably priced, I think it worked out to $2 a jar.
Simply Natural is made by Chelten House, a fourth generation industry leader in natural and organic products that operates out of the USA. Chelten House also offers a selection of organic Salad Dressings, organic Salsas, organic Ketchup & organic Mustards.
All Simply Natural products are made from the finest and freshest organic ingredients, without the use of preservatives, chemical additives, food colourings, irradiation or genetically modified products.
More recently, I was sent a bundle featuring the Spring 2013 picks from The Healthy Shopper. One of the products featured were the salsa line from Simply Natural. It was everything I love about their pasta sauce all over again. All natural, preservative free, organic and super tasty. Simply Natural uses diced tomatoes and vegetables in their Organic Salsas rather than purees, giving them an awesome chunky, homemade texture. The Mango Salsa is my personal favourite (a touch of sweetness and spice, yum!), though the Black Bean & Corn is a close second.
