The Healthy Shopper is the brain child of Andrea Donsky a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (R.H.N.) and Randy Boyer a life-long advocate of healthy living and eating. They started The Healthy Shopper coupon book back in 1999, which today is distributed in more than 450 health food stores in Canada and reaches more than 250,000 people a year. To this day, it remains the only coupon book in Canada for natural and organic products.
Andrea and Randy have dedicated their lives to sharing the benefits of a natural and healthy lifestyle with the world, They have established themselves as respected and authoritative voices in the health and wellness communities. Just this past December they launched their first book UNJUNK YOUR JUNK FOOD, Healthy Alternatives to Conventional Snacks. Both Andrea and Randy believe you can have it all, just without the chemical additives–coined by the authors as ‘The Scary Seven’ – a list of ingredients including: High-Fructose Corn Syrup, Artificial Sweeteners, MSG, Artificial Flavors, Trans Fat, Artificial Colors, and Preservatives.
Twice a year The Healthy Shopper highlights their picks of the season. I had a chance to check out their Spring picks for 2013. Much like their coupon book, it’s quite the assortment of products. From Salsa to Bruise Cream, there’s a little bit of something for everyone here.
I haven’t banged myself up since receiving my sample, so I haven’t had cause to use it yet. I was disappointed when I discovered this is meant for adult’s only, though Zax’s does produce a kid friendly version as well.
Olympic Dairy Organic Yogurt
This tops the “Going to Put it In My Cart Every Shopping Trip From Now On” list. I tried out the French Vanilla yogurt. It was amazingly thick, rich and creamy. Utterly scrumptious. My daughters and I were literally fighting over the container.
Simply Natural Organic Salsas
I’ve already written a bit about how much I love Simply Natural’s tasty organic salsas and sauces. The Mango salsa is not to be missed!
Earth Balance Organic Coconut Spread
As someone who has been on a dairy free or limited dairy diet for most of my life, I’ve tried tons of different “dairy free butter alternatives”. I really wasn’t sure what to expect here. The word coconut spread in the product name had me thinking is would be somehow sweet or nutty, but really it just tasted like a decent margarine. When fresh from the fridge it was a little hard to spread, but I enjoyed the taste.
Earth Balance Organic Coconut Spread is lactose-Free, Soy-Free, Dairy-Free, Casein-Free, Gluten-Free, Non-GMO, Vegan, Organic and uses only Expeller-Pressed Oil. It won the 2011 VegNews Product of the Year Award and the 2011 Natural Foods Expo West – VegNews Best in Show Award.
Available at Loblaw (National), Metro (Ontario), Sobeys (National), Overwaitea, Thrifty Foods, Federated Coop, Farm Boy, Whole Foods (All), Choices, Goodness Me, Planet Organic Market, All natural chains and stores across the West, Ontario, and Atlantic Canada. Suggested retail: $5.99
Hyland’s Homeopathic Leg Cramps
These quick dissolving tablets are supposed to be good for relieving camps and pains in the lower back, legs and feet. The PM version is supposed to provide nighttime cramp relief, calm agitated legs and nighttime sleeplessness. It’s not something anyone in our family had a need for, so we haven’t tried these.
Natracare Organic Cotton Intimate Wipes
and Natracare Natural Maternity Pads
My kids assumed the Intimate Wipes were baby wipes and helped themselves to the package. One poopy diaper change and an unauthorized wall cleaning spree later, the package was gone, without me having actually touched actually a single wipe. And I don’t have much to say about the pads. They were pads. Nothing really wrong with them per say, but I will admit to preferring my usual brand.
Natracare Organic Cotton Intimate Wipes are enriched with organic essential oils of calendula and chamomile, on ICEA/IMO Certified organic 100% cotton cloth. They are free from harmful ingredients, are non-chlorine bleached and can be used by children and adults.
Natracare’s organic intimate wipes, cotton baby wipes and natural maternity pads are biodegradable and compostable, and are derived from sustainable, renewable and natural resources.
Natracare products are available nationwide from natural health stores, Loblaw’s, Whole Foods, Metro, London Drugs, Super Drug Mart, other natural/specialty retailers and online including www.well.ca. Suggested retail: Natracare Cotton Baby Wipes $7.44; Natracare Organic Intimate Wipes $4.15; Natracare Natural Maternity Pads $6.31.
