Did you guys know that Orange Julius is now available at Dairy Queen?
I have so many fond memories of Orange Julius from over the years. When I was a kid pretty much every trip to the mall included a visit to the Orange Julius booth in the food court. It was the one treat my mom was always willing to splurge on. Myself and both my siblings had a dairy allergy, and I’m not sure where my mom got this idea, but she thought Orange Julius was dairy free (it’s not). She told me it was made with eggs and orange juice. (Um… she was WAY off base, which would explain why our attempts to replicate the drink at home were a colossal fail.) Since for many years she thought it was the dairy-free equivalent of a milkshake, she was always willing to buy us kids one. Granted we went to the mall maybe 3 or 4 times a year max, so it wasn’t too much cause for concern that she was mistakenly slipping us a beverage made with milk.
Curious to know what’s actually in there?
The original Orange Julius is a mix of orange juice, milk, sugar, ice and vanilla flavoring.
Now with my own kids, who thankfully have no food allergies I am really picky with what they drink. I’m that mean mom who won’t let her kids have pop, or even kool-aid. When we’re at home they get white milk or 100% fruit juice mixed 50/50 with water. I’m just starting to lighten up and let them occasionally have unwatered juice when we eat out. But I’m happy to let them have an Orange Julius as a treat now and again. (Which I am willing to admit is largely because I want one and it would be cruel not to share.)
Anyone else an Orange Julius fan? I wouldn’t turn my nose up at a Blizzard either. Yum. Perfect excuse to cart the family off for a visit to the nearest DQ, don’t you think?
