Last night I was in the kitchen throwing dinner together. Hubby wasn't feeling well and had come home from work and headed straight to bed. I was desperately trying to keep the volume level on the kids down to a dull roar, while simultaneously finishing up dinner. Both kids had had a rough day at school for various reasons, neither of them were in the best mood, and they kept … [Read more...]
What happened to Family Game Night?
Do you have family games night? Do you just spontaneously break out the games sometimes, or do you have a set night where everyone comes together to play board games? For me I've always thought this was a silly question. While we don't have any one night set aside as "Family Game Time", we play games with the kids regularly. We are a family of gamers. My husband has over … [Read more...]
19 Patterns to Knit Your Own Doctor Who Scarf
There are so many cool free Doctor Who scarf patterns out there. My knitting skills are pretty rusty, but I'm thinking I just might dig my needles out of the closet and try my hand at making one of these Doctor Who themed scarves. (I'm probably going to start with the official BBC pattern for Tom Baker's scarf -- who wouldn't want to wear that, even if just for fun?) Free … [Read more...]
Mattel Games Night
UNO was one of my favourite games as a kid. It was one of the first "grown-up" games I can remember playing, when I first moved beyond wee child-sized card sets of Go Fish and Old Maid. I was super excited to introduce my eldest daughter to the game, and I did a little happy dance when the Easter Bunny brought her a set in her basket this past Spring. It's one of those games … [Read more...]
Finishing the Puzzle
Note to the Easter Bunny: A 1000 piece puzzle is not actually age appropriate for the 7 year old (or maybe even this 40 year old). Our team effort took an entire Sunday. No exaggeration, we spent the entire day on this darn puzzle and barely finished in time for bed. "Grown up" puzzles are a bit more challenging then I remembered, that's for sure. … [Read more...]
Stars on Ice (& in Drag), Hip Hip Chin Chin
On Mother's Day I had the delightful experience of attending Stars on Ice in London. I wanted to share a few additional photos from one of my favourite parts of the show, a group dance set performed to "Hip Hip Chin Chin" by Club des Belugas. Upbeat tune, colourful costumes, flawless footwork, first class athletes making all that ice-skating look fun and effortless... what's … [Read more...]
My Mother’s Day Experience with Stars on Ice
I had the most incredible Mother's Day, thanks to Jergens. Jergens is one of the sponsors of the Stars on Ice tour and they offered me tickets to the London performance of the 25th Anniversary show, which happened to take place right on Mother's Day. So I hopped in the car with my mom, my mother-in-law and my eldest daughter and drove to London for the afternoon. My … [Read more...]

Cineplex has teamed up with Britain's National Theatre to bring the best of British theatre live from the London stage to cinemas throughout Canada, and on Feb.21st they will be showing an encore performance of Treasure Island. I've been sneaking a peek at trailers on YouTube and I'm pretty excited about this one. To start with this is Treasure Island with one interesting … [Read more...]
PJs & Pancakes: Birthday Party Fun with Fisher Price Little People {plus Pumpkin Pancake Recipe}
Fisher-Price sent me on a mission to check out their new Little People First Birthday site. Now everyone in this family is well past their first birthday, but that didn't stop us from having some Fisher-Price style fun. My kids, yes even the seven year old, still love their Little People and play with them frequently. Browsing through the party planning suggestions I decided a … [Read more...]
Wild Kratts LIVE on Tour
Wild Kratts LIVE is coming to Windsor and I couldn't be more excited. Back before I was a mom, Hubby and I were living in this dinky little apartment with about four channels we could pick up on our rabbit ears style TV. We used to sit and watch Zoboomafoo. Frequently. I'd even say regularly. And yes, there were no kids in the house. We just liked it. It was a decent show (and … [Read more...]
Get Creative – DIY Magnetic Advent Calendar – Make it in 30 minutes for Under $20
For several years now I've been locked in debate with my husband, with him thinking we need new advent calendars, and me using copious amounts of tape to mend the not-so-sturdy cardboard boxes and keep the one we had going. Then last year I came up with the brilliant idea to make a new advent calendar to hold our traditional Playmobil pieces. See for as long as my eldest has … [Read more...]
This App is the Best iPad Kids Game Out There! Hurry and Get it Now While It’s Still FREE
Leo's Pad is one of my all time favourite kids apps. I can not recommend this educational game highly enough. When it first came out I downloaded the first appisode for free and then I happily paid for appisodes 2 and 3. This is note worthy folks. I NEVER put out money for apps, and Leo's Pad is one of two kids app's that I have willingly paid for (the other being Reading … [Read more...]

On Saturday Oct.25th I'll be joining in with hundreds of other gamers across North America, playing games for 24 hours straight as part of the 2014 Extra Life Event. Personally … [Read more...]
Awesome Mother’s Day Cake Idea, Kids Can Make with Edible Markers
Awesome "the kids decorated it" cake for mom or grandma. How perfect would this be for Mother's day? Just cover cake in white fondant and let your kids get creative with edible markers. (And yes this particular cake was actually made as a birthday cake for a proud grandfather. Still makes an awesome Mother's Day idea). … [Read more...]
Indoor Snow Play, Perfect For a Snow Day
We spent G-Girl's last Snow Day building snow forts and snowmen in our dining room. The snow outside looks lovely shinning in the sunlight, but I'm not letting my kids outside to play on a day when they warn you can get frostbite in under five minutes. So instead, we brought the snow play inside. I gave them cornstarch based packing peanuts. The kind that are super … [Read more...]
