Cool Book Alert – Un Pato en Nueva York

May 16, 2011 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

I was offered a free review copy of Un Pato en Nueva York, a cute kids storybook & music CD set, which I actually turned down. Un Pato en Nueva York is the Spanish language version of the Juno Award winning “Duck in New York City”. Right now Rainbow is fixated on learning French. She is constantly asking me to tell her what something is in French, she asks me to sing to her in French, she asks to watch DVDs in French, etc. I didn’t think it was good timing to add Spanish to the mix, as she’s already babbling gibberish words while insisting she is speaking French.

However, I went and checked out the webpage for Un Pato en Nueva York and it was so captivating that I had to share it with you guys. Uruguayan-born singer Ines Canepa has a lovely voice and the demo song that plays on the web page “Quiero tomates” is quite catchy.

I, of course, had to go looking for the English language version –  A Duck in New York City.   I hunted around until I found the English version of the same song, “I Love Tomatoes”  It’s still cute, but I have to say I actually preferred the Spanish language version.

I thought I’d give it a quick mention. I love that the publisher, The Secret Mountain, is Canadian. I think Un Pato en Nueva York would be a great choice for those that are learning Spanish, or want to introduce their child to an additional language. You can check it out here (make sure your sound is on so you’ll hear the cute “Quiero tomates” tune).
