As part of my journey to capture my childhood, I recently wrote a bit about some of the Halloween costumes my mom made me over the years. With Halloween being tomorrow I thought I'd share this awesome photo my mom dug up of me and my siblings. That's me as (the ill-fated) Fairy Princess, my brother as Wee Willy Winkie and my sister as Little Red Riding Hood, Halloween Eve … [Read more...]
Kid friendly posters, free from the Canadian Government {Cool Freebie Alert}
Last week I ordered a couple of cool freebies. A poster map of the world, and a poster of marine life, offered free from various branches of the Canadian government (Your tax dollars at work). They both showed up in yesterday's mail. I was a little disappointed in the world map. (Brought to you by Canadian Geographic and the Canadian International Development … [Read more...]
Bedtime Conversations in the Land of Oz…
As I mentioned before I’ve been reading the Oz books to my three year old. Each night at bedtime Rainbow and I read a chapter. Right now we're reading book five, Road to Oz. Some interesting conversations have come about from these bedtime reads… In the second book in the series, The Land of Oz, there is an uprising and General Jinjur removes the Scarecrow from the … [Read more...]
Soft & Cuddly Blabla Doll from Giving Gifts
Last week I lucked out and won a Blabla doll from Giving Gifts. I let my Rainbow pick which one she wanted. Personally I would have went with this guy (Peeko), but she chose Lee Lee Plum. If I had any sense I would have picked out a Blabla doll and then tucked it away for a Christmas gift. As it was though, Rainbow had a blast picking out her doll and waiting for her to … [Read more...]
Bedtime Stories…
I began reading chapter books at bedtime a little after Rainbow's third birthday. We started with Winnie the Pooh. I wasn’t sure if she was old enough yet, or if it would keep her attention, but she LOVED it. The serial, cliff hanger nature, the I wonder what will happen next aspect, and the waiting to read the next chapter tomorrow, has her completely hooked. When she’s … [Read more...]
DIY – Edible Finger Paints to Make at Home
A couple of days ago we made some Edible Finger Paint. It was incredibly easy to make. It was also very easy to clean up after (and Gracie had a blast). I've read several kids activity books that suggestion using pudding as finger paint. However, I really prefer this variant because it's not as sweet, and therefore doesn't encourage kids to eat the paints. Also, you end up … [Read more...]

Peche Island Daytrip {Essex County, Local}
The Citizen’s Environmental Alliance is hosting its yearly free day trip out to Peche Island. I am so excited about this! I have always wanted to visit Peche Island. As I understand it, Peche Island is always open to the public, but you need a boat to get there. I know it’s full of trees and pathways. I also read that there are ruins from Hiram … [Read more...]
Princess Stinky Toes and the Brave Frog Robert {Book Review}
Princess Stinky-toes and the Brave Frog Robert by Leslie Elizabeth Watts (author/illustrator) My Rainbow just loves this book! She asks me to read it almost daily. As it is really meant for an older audience, it’s a bit on the longish side for her 3-year old attention span. So we tend to read it in two sittings. There are also many call backs to familiar fairy tales … [Read more...]
