Review of the Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Alarm Clock

May 5, 2011 by Deanna Tousignant 22 Comments

We received a Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Alarm Clock for review. The clock is small, about 8 inches high.  The two alarm bells on top are actually buttons which make silly sounds when you press down on them.  The red bit in the centre lights up when the alarm sounds. The small hand on the clock is inset and built into the clock face.  The big hand is designed to be pushed around the clock face.  As the big hand reaches each number it says that number aloud.

G-Girl LOVES this little clock. Frankly, I was a little surprised by just how much she likes it. She has made the DiscoverSounds Alarm Clock part of her daily naptime/bedtime routine. We have a real alarm clock set up in her room. Ideally if she wakes early she’s supposed to look at the clock and find out if it’s “wake up” time yet. She now sets the DiscoverSounds Alarm Clock on top of the dresser, right next to the real alarm clock. She turns the arm on the Little Tikes

clock until it says “Four”. She pats the clock and says, “You wake me at four, ok.” Climbs into bed, has her story read to her, and takes her nap. It doesn’t seem to phase her at all that the clock’s alarm does not go off when it’s time to wake up. Several times she has informed me that the clock has woken her, or woken her ‘tend friends. She also carries it around with her and sits down to do an activity and asks the clock to tell her when it’s time to stop. Odd, but cute.

I like that the Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Alarm Clock helps with number recognition, by repeating the names of the numbers each time the big hand is moved over top of them. G-Girl has already mastered the fine art of counting to twelve, but she still has fun running through the numbers with the clock, and proudly pointing out to me how she and the clock are counting together.

At 14 months old, Baby-G also enjoys the DiscoverSounds Alarm Clock. She loves the silly noises it makes. The alarm bells make her giggle. The buttons on top are large and easy for little hands to activate.  I know soon enough she will be moving the clock hand around and learning her numbers.

The alarm noises that the clock makes can get annoying (to adults) with repetition. However, I like that the volume is relatively low. Compared to the other noisy battery operated toys we have around the house, the volume is just right on this one.

Overall I would recommend this toy. Both of my girls enjoy it and play with it regularly. The Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Alarm Clock is available at Walmart and Zellers stores across Canada, and sells for a rather reasonable suggested retail of $12.99.

Disclosure – I received a free DiscoverSounds Alarm Clock, as described above. As always, my opinions are my own and were not influenced by the company, or by the free product received.

4am I would def. veto. She was setting it to tell her to get up from her afternoon nap, so 4 o'clock was a-ok.

Sounds like a great learning tool. The lower volume is awesome. So many toys are waaay to loud and have no way to turn it down.
