Triberr Trick: How to Pull Only Certain Posts from Your Blog

January 16, 2014 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

Today I have a blogging tip for those of you who use Triberr. Did you know you set it up so that Triberr will promote only certain posts from you blog? You can pick a label and have just your blog posts tagged with that label post to your Triberr stream.  For example you could set it so that only the posts you label “recipe” would be picked up. Which would be pretty useful if, for example, you wanted to join a Foodie themed Tribe and didn’t want to spam them with your non-food related content.  Or you could create your own label, specifically to mark which posts you want pulled to Triberr overall, and then only tag what you think people will want to repost — thus making you a superstar to your thankful tribemates.

The first step is to burn a new RSS feed that points specifically to your label.  For this I used Feedburner. Head over there (you will need to be logged into a Google account) and where it says “Burn a feed right this instant” paste in your label URL.

The format for a Blogger/Blogspot URL is:
http://www.YourBlogName.com/feeds/posts/default/-/LabelName

Follow the easy peasy directions, give your new feed a name and you’re set.

Once you have your new feed burned, head over to Triberr and take a look at your “Account Settings”.

Under “My Blogs” choose “+Add Blog” and enter your new RSS feed URL. Under homepage URL do not put your blog’s homepage URL.  You need to put something distinct so you that in the next step you will be able can distinguish it from your regular feed. I suggest using the URL for your label (http://www.YourBlogName.com/search/label/LabelName).

Once you have that set up click on “Assign Tribes” and pick the tribe that you want your themed content to stream to.  In the drop down menu pick the homepage URL of the RSS feed you want associated with that tribe (a.k.a. the URl for your label).

Things to Note:
Be careful when picking your feed from the drop down menu, as soon as you click your selection will be saved and you can only change the blog a tribe is assigned to once every 30 days.

A free Triberr account only allows you to draw from two RSS feeds, upgrading to a paid “Prime” account will allow you to have four RSS feeds connected. (Discovering this, for the first time ever I’m tempted to upgrade to a paid account.)

My directions are for Blogger/Blogspot users, but the principle should be the same for WordPress: burn a RSS feed for your tag and use that RSS feed for your themed tribe.

If you give it a try let me know what you think. I believe targeted themed Tribes are the way of the future, and this is the one simple way you can ensure your Foodies Forever tribe doesn’t need to weed through and hide your DVD review posts. If you come up with any other clever applications I’d love to hear about it.
