Warning: Please avert your eyes if discussion of my sex life is going to offend you.
I got my husband a slightly risqué Christmas gift this year, one I had him open Christmas eve after the kids were in bed, because I didn’t want them to see it. Yeah, it was that kind of risqué.
Luvmybox is a new small Canadian company that just opened this past September. They offer a monthly subscription service that delivers a themed box full of “sultry goodies” right to your door. You can buy a one month subscription, for yourself or as a gift, for $34.95. Or you can save $5 by going with the three month subscription.
First, a little background info. I am one very happily married lady, which is to say I wasn’t looking for something to put the spark back in our relationship, or spice up a boring bedroom routine. Though I could see how a subscription to Luvmybox could work nicely in both those situations. Personally, I was just looking for a fun, flirty gift to surprise my husband with.
And a “sexy” gift really would surprise the pants off of him, as he knows I am really easily embarrassed about this sort of thing. I can’t set foot in a sex shop, not for a hundred dollars. Raise the bet to a thousand and I might reconsider, but I wouldn’t be running for the door. Frankly I wouldn’t even know what the heck to buy. Which would be why the 50$ Eden Fantasy credit I won over a year ago is still sitting around unused.
So Luvmybox was perfect for me in two ways. First I didn’t have to fumble over picking out the contents of the box, as they curate the content, sending out a different themed box each month. Secondly, everything about the delivery was extremely discreet. Even knowing I was awaiting a delivery, I had no clue what it was when it arrived; just a small very plain brown box with just some return address in BC. And inside that plain brown box was a plain sealed black box. And still nothing on the outside of that black box to give away its contents. Which I really appreciated when I mistakenly opened said plain brown box in front of my kids. So yeah, bonus points for extreme discreetness.
I received two little black boxes from Luvmybox, their monthly subscription box for December ($34.95) and a special holidays For Him box ($19.95). (You can take a peek at boxes from months past at their website.)
To be honest, I was disappointed with the December subscription box. Checking out their website the subscription boxes sounded like something fun for couples to enjoy together. The major components in the December box were a black feather boa, pasties, a garter belt, and a book called The House Wives Guide to Striptease. The accompanying tip sheet gave ideas on how to tease your guy and get him wild with desire. Um. Yeah. So not me. Thanks. Two kids in the house, right? Not a lot of half-naked partying going on over here. Overall it seemed more of a “for her”, box than a couple’s box. Not a really fantastic gift to hand over to hubby to open. And might I add that feather boa shed, a lot, and did I mention I’m allergic to feathers? But then that’s the chance I take with a mystery subscription box, right?
Not surprisingly the For Him box made a much better gift, as the contents were picked out with guys in mind. And as those contents were far from G-rated, I’m going to leave it up to your imagination. Though I will mention that the inclusion of bondage tape had hubby chuckling over Shades of Grey fads. Again not really my thing.
I love that Luvmybox is Canadian (just a guess here, but I’m thinking nothing crimps discreet delivery like a customs sheet). I really appreciated the discreetness of the packaging, and the fact that they create themed boxes for you each month. Overall, I think I hit an off month with the December box. (Just for me personally, I’m sure for some folks it was right on the money), and I still think Luvmybox is a fun, flirty, gift-giving idea.
Perhaps you’re thinking, “Hey that sounds perfect for Valentine’s Day!” Well if that’s so you should hurry over and place an order right now. The cut-off for Valentine’s delivery is Feb.3rd. (Though I think an IOU of a subscription on the way could still make a cool gift.)
Disclosure: I received two review boxes from Luvmybox. As always my words and opinions are my own.
EDIT: AS of 2016, Luvmybox is unfortunately no longer in business.
