My son is now 20 months. I have struggled with supply issues for as long as I have breastfed. Not only with our current little bean but with all five of them. I have learned all I can learn and put it to use but still I’ve struggled.
So with all these hardships one thing I do know is breast pumps. I’ve tried plenty of them. Different brands, manual, electric, battery operated, double, single. I’ve never invested in one of my own; only rented or borrowed them from friends. I’ve only occasionally needed a pump. Right now what I need is one I can use when I am out and Mister E is not with me. Even at this stage he nurses every couple hours so when he and I are apart for any length of time I need to pump.
By far the best manual pump I have used is the AVENT Comfort Manual Breast pump. I have used other manual pumps before and can not believe the difference. It’s super lightweight and compact. And although there are many parts, for those of you, like me, who don’t like to read the directions, it is easy to put together. Very comfortable with a soft flexible cushion and talk about suction! WOW. Honestly I have used a double electric hospital grade and you would never be able to tell the difference. It’s a very reasonable price for such a great product.
If you are looking for something for everyday use I recommend checking out the AVENT website for something more heavy duty but this little guy is perfect for those days on the run or on long car trips. Storing milk has never been an issue for me since I never seem to have enough to have to worry about storing it. However when I was recently away from Mister E I had to store what I pumped until I could get back home to him. The new AVENT Breast Milk Storage Bags are pretty great I must say. The double zipper lock is so easy to use compared to the older styles I have seen before, which never seemed to close easily. But what makes me love them is that they stand upright on their own! There is also plenty of room to write the time and date on them and the tamper proof seal gives you peace of mind. Again seems like great ideas, and so simple to use I feel like Avent really must have asked mothers what they are looking for then created products with that in mind.
The Philips AVENT Comfort Manual breast pump retails for $59.99 and is available at Babies R Us, Sears, Loblaw, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Rexall, Well.ca and other retailers.
