My darling three year old daughter is still potty training. Success ratio of dry days vs. three outfit days is going up. Still far too much of my time lately has been spent mopping up puddles of pee and feeling thankful that the majority of my house is not carpeted. Add in the fact that my six year old has been having far too many “Oh gosh, I just spilt the entire full cup of milk!” moments, and my floor cleaning skills have been getting quite the work out.
Enter the Swiffer BISSELL SteamBoost
I love Swiffer. Love, love, love Swiffer. So I was pretty excited to discover they’d teamed up with Bissell to create a steam mop.
The Swiffer BISSELL SteamBoost is quick and easy to use. You just fill it with water and plug it in. It’s warmed up and ready to go in about 30 seconds. The special disposable steam pads contain a “steam-activated dirt-dissolving cleaning solution”, so you don’t need to add anything other then water.
My current accident cleaning regime has become this: when accident occurs quickly mop up wet mess with paper towel or rag, and then later when I have more time I break out the steam mop and give the area a quick once over. Clean and germ free, thank you!
What I love:
It is very light and compact. It doesn’t weight much at all, and it is easy to maneuver.
It doesn’t run out of steam. The tank hold 10oz of water, which doesn’t seem like much but I’ve yet to go through more then half a tank in one use. I’m left having to dump water out, every time.
It does a great job on my floors and it dries quickly. As I just mentioned, the steam uses up surprisingly little water leaving the floors damp, but not really wet. I’ve tried it on both linoleum and hardwood and have been pleased with the results. (Technically it says it should “Do not use on non-sealed, unfinished, oiled or waxed wooded boards. I’m pretty sure my vintage hardwood floors are sealed, but I’m not 100% certain. I do know this has got to be better than sticky milk residue or yucky pee germs.)
The cord is surprisingly long. I can do pretty much any room in my house without having to move to a different outlet.
What I dislike:
My biggest disappointment was in the disposable pads. I read “power of steam” and “no other cleaning solutions needed” and silly me, I thought it cleaned solely with scalding hot water. The reality is the disposable pad has a special heat activated cleaning solution, and I’m not crazy about the “Open Window Fresh Scent”. Unscented would rock.
