Learning How to Enjoy the Journey…

September 4, 2017 by Deanna Tousignant 3 Comments

Starting the new school year off with a quote from one of my fav Canadian authors, Charles de Lint.

When all’s said and done, all roads lead to the same end. So it’s not so much which road you take, as how you take it. ~ Charles de Lint

And my kids will be off tomorrow, with a hop, and a skip and smile. Excited, as always, to start a new year.  Whatever path they take, whatever adventure they are off to next, it’s always with a jump and twirl and a giggle, these two.

Miss 10 has grown bunches since I took this photo of her. She’s no longer that little long haired munchkin running down the sidewalk at full tilt with streamer in hand. She is, as her grandmother pointed out to me the other day, “Ten going on fifteen” that one. She’s heading off into Grade 5 with short “boy” hair and a sometimes sullen seriousness. Yet still, the same exuberant spirit is in there. Hiding at times behind those tentative, shy, moody tweenage moments.

My own journey has had a lot of bumps lately. I’ve tripped a few times. I’ve felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere. Yet, I watch these two, my girls — nothing stops them. When life trips them up, they just get right back up with a leap and a giggle and a sideways wiggle.

I’m trying to enjoy all the little moments and to learn from these two sweet souls, how best to dance gracefully through life.

It’s not the road, it’s the journey, right?

So let’s make the most of it, enjoy every second, as we jog and twirl and spin our way along the path.

Children have a lot to teach us…we just have to stop and listen.

Focusing on the little things in life that bring gratitude to our hearts is what makes all the difference for me.

Beautifully said! It is the little things that I feel most grateful for.
