The One Where I Turn 40 & Talk About Make-Up

April 10, 2015 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

I’m not a make-up kind of gal. Mostly I just I wear lip balm when my lips feel chapped, or the sunblock type when I know I’ll be outdoors all day. Make-up has just never been my thing. Last month I turned 40. I spent the actual day of my birthday taking care of a sick kid and cleaning up puke. Woohoo, wasn’t that a party. Thankfully by the next weekend she was feeling better and I was able to ship the girls off to my mom’s for the night and slip off for a night out with hubby.

In honour of my 40th, I broke out the lipstick, the mascara, the works. It’s true, every once in a blue moon I feel like getting dolled up. A birthday’s a good excuse, right? When I do decide to dip into the make up bag here’s what I go with:

It shouldn’t surprise you guys too much to discover that my make-up bag is stocked with P&G products from Olay and Covergirl.

  • The Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Aging Eye Cream Line and Dark Circle Minimizing Brush – my secret weapon in the fight against dark rings under my sleep deprived eyes.
  • Covergirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil – I’ve discovered I really prefer the ease of the pencil on eyeshadow vs the brush on type.
  • Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara – It lives up to the name, giving my lashes volume and definition with zero clumps.
  • Covergirl Colorlicious Lipstick – When it comes to lipstick I’ve always been a fan of Covergirl. The new Colourlicious line is no exception, providing long lasting coverage that doesn’t leave my lips feeling dried out.
Forgot to include it in the photo but I’ve got to give an honourable mention to my other make-up bag favourite — Covergirl Blast Flipstick Lipcolor. It’s a double sided lipstick, with two tones that are meant to go together. It’s got a nice metallic shimmer to it. This is the lipstick I wear most often (you know, a dozen times a year). At one point P&G sent me a sample Flipstick in a shade I wasn’t completely in love with. I liked the two toned concept though, and I loved the metallic shimmer. Enough so that I actually went out and bought two more, in shades more to my preference. (Guys I buy make up maybe once every six year, so that’s saying something.)
I asked hubby to take my photo before we stepped out for the night. The photos a bit blurry, apparently my husband isn’t the best camera man. I normally avoid selfies, they make me squirm. But I’ll let you folks in on a little secret. I am much happier being me, much more comfortable in my own skin, at 40 than I’ve been at any other point in my life. I’m looking forward to the next forty years, and plenty of excuses to get dolled up in between.
