Cutting My Hair to Donate to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program, an Update Two Years Later

February 21, 2016 by Deanna Tousignant 9 Comments

Two years ago I cut twenty-four inches off my hair, donating it to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program where it would be used to make free wigs for cancer patients. I actually have a hard time believing it's been two years. It was such a unique and special day that the memory is still bright and fresh in my mind. Raising over $1300 for the Canadian Cancer Society because of … [Read more...]

If you've been following my blog for any amount of time you are probably aware of how much I adore the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, that's the amazing program where Pantene has partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society to take donations of cut hair and turn those ponytails into real hair wigs for women battling cancer, which are … [Read more...]

Second Thoughts & Hair As Identity

February 11, 2014 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

So, tomorrow is the big day. The salon appointment is booked. At 2:00pm I'll be cutting and donating my hair. At the beginning of this I said I was going to cut off 1 inch for every $100 raised, and that my goal was to raise $2500 and cut off 25 inches. Today my mom stopped by and helped me take this photo of my hair. I wanted to show how much 10 inches off would be. When I … [Read more...]

The Differences Between Long Hair & Absurdly Long Hair, aka How I became a Freak

January 31, 2014 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

I find that being out in public with extremely long hair is much like walking around with a baby bump showing. Total strangers seem to think this gives them the license to touch and to ask awkward personal questions. Little old ladies in particular, seem to be drawn to touching and petting my hair. For the most part I put up with it, because who has the heart to tell some sweet … [Read more...]

Most Common Questions About Life With Very Long Hair, Answered

January 30, 2014 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

Strangers like to ask me questions about my hair, and the questions I get asked the most often are: How long did it take you to grow that hair?, Does it get in the way? aka What do you do with it when you sleep/use the toilet/play with your kids?, and Isn't it a pain to take care of? So, how long did it take to grow my hair?  My hair truly does grow like a weed. I've … [Read more...]

Cut for Cancer HAIRity Fundraiser, Time to #PonyItUp

January 12, 2014 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

I have long hair. It's part of who I am. The majority of my adult life I have had waist length hair. I've let it grow extra long over the past year in anticipation of cutting it to donate, but barring a year here or there when I was younger I have always had long hair. It's been shoulder length or longer, usually much longer, for at least twenty years now. My husband, who has … [Read more...]

H is for… HAIR HUGS

March 1, 2013 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

With four long haired family members, we've got a whole lot of hair going on. Care to imagine what my bathtub drain looks like? And yes, my kids are still crazy obsessed with mama's hair and with hair hugs. Here we have some photos where my five year old helper tried to capture her little sister attacking me a hair hug in progress. Well, at least she looks … [Read more...]

I chopped over a foot off of my hair…

August 10, 2011 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

Last week my mom came over and gave me my yearly trim.  The entire time she was cutting my hair Rainbow was in the kitchen doorway yelling, "Don't cut too much Mimi! Leave me enough for hair hugs! hair hugs!!" My knee length hair, pre-hair cut. And my waist length hair, post hair cut. Notice how now the baby can't grab it when I'm standing up? Yeah. Much … [Read more...]

Secret Mommyhood Confessions – Hair Hugs

May 3, 2011 by Deanna Tousignant 11 Comments

I have long hair. My which I mean Really Long Hair. Seriously, down past my bum, encroaching on my knees, long hair. I haven't had short hair in at least twenty years. Over the years I have often been approached by strangers who want to talk to me about my hair. I am constantly asked questions, from the frequent and mundane, "Isn't it hard to take care of." (Heck no. It's … [Read more...]
