Every Summer we go to this big crafter's fair called Art by the River. It's held at the Fort Malden National Historic Site in Amherstburg, Ontario. We enjoy walking around and looking at all the various things for sale, doing a little Christmas shopping, maybe eating a frozen yogurt or two. The kids always want to stop and paint a picture at the art station. The one part of the … [Read more...]
The August Civic Holiday in Canada. What’s the deal? Is it a real holiday?
When I think of the Civic Holiday what first comes to mind is a memory from my childhood. Every Summer around this time my Dad would have an argument with his boss, who also happened to be my grandfather. My Dad would insist they were closing for the August Civic Holiday, and my grandfather would insist he'd never heard of it before...Was it something new this year? Was it even … [Read more...]

Count Scary! #ThrowbackThursday
"Ohhh, that's scaaary." Growing up in a border city in the pre-cable TV days, I watched plenty of US television when I was young. Detroit WDIV used to have B-movie marathons that were hosted by this silly vampire guy, Count Scary. He was a hoot (and well, so were all those old Vincent Price films, oh and the giant monster ones, and those 70s vampire flicks... ahh, so … [Read more...]
#ThrowbackThursday to when the Queen Visited Windsor
In 1984 Queen Elizabeth visited my home town of Windsor, Ontario. I was in Grade 4 at the time, and I was a huge fan of Lady Diana. I had caught full on Royal fever during the fuss leading up to her wedding to Prince Charles. I had a scrapbook where I would keep newspapers and magazine cuttings from whenever she was mentioned (When I was in my twenties I sold that scrapbook on … [Read more...]
Wild Kratts LIVE on Tour
Wild Kratts LIVE is coming to Windsor and I couldn't be more excited. Back before I was a mom, Hubby and I were living in this dinky little apartment with about four channels we could pick up on our rabbit ears style TV. We used to sit and watch Zoboomafoo. Frequently. I'd even say regularly. And yes, there were no kids in the house. We just liked it. It was a decent show (and … [Read more...]
Why Aren’t We Visiting Michigan More Often?
Michigan. It's right there over the river. I mean I gaze across the river and look at Belle Isle, or Detroit at least once a week. Yet I don't travel across the border that often. Once upon a time, it was different. We used to go to the states with my husband's parents All Of The Time. They would hop over to the states to go shopping every second Saturday, like clockwork, and … [Read more...]

On Saturday Oct.25th I'll be joining in with hundreds of other gamers across North America, playing games for 24 hours straight as part of the 2014 Extra Life Event. Personally … [Read more...]
Eat at Jack’s #FpF
A few weeks ago we went out for a belated Valentine's Day dinner, and it looked like this.... That little pot of roasted veggies was divine. The salmon and rice were perfect. I love everything about eating at Jack's Gastropub and if it wasn't 50 minute drive from our house I guarantee we'd be there regularly. (Last year my husband wrote a review about one of our … [Read more...]

For this weeks #FordPornFriday I present my all-time favourite food.... Sushi! I could eat sushi seven days a week and never ever get sick of it. Yum. Yum. Yum. Just looking at this photo has me plotting when we can fit in a return visit. #FoodPornFriday is … [Read more...]

I’m planning a little March Staycation and I’ve got a few questions to ask…
I'm planning something wacky for my birthday this year. My mom is taking the kids for the weekend, but instead of heading to London or Toronto, as we usually do hubby and I are planning to stay here in Windsor and play tourist. I want to avoid just heading to all of our usual favourite spots. I want to explore and go places I would go if I was visiting Windsor, places I forget … [Read more...]
Why Koba Entertainment Rocks and Guess Who is Following their Berry Own Beat Right into Windsor?
Back in December we had the chance to see a Koba Entertainment show, Max & Ruby in the Nutcracker Suite. The girls were enchanted, and I was truly impressed. The costumes, the scenery and the dancers; everything was top notch. They had some incredibly talented performers in the troupe, who danced pieces from the Nutcrackers Ballet, each performing multiple parts throughout … [Read more...]
