The only thing the 8 year old wanted for Christmas this year was art supplies. Here she is "playing" with the pile of goodies Santa left for her. Things to note: 1) I can't get Rainbow to sit and draw at a table. She insists she is comfiest curled up on her bed. 2)The kid amazes me, at 8 year's old she already draws as well as I did in highschool. (Maybe I should have been … [Read more...]
My Top Nine {not so Wordless Wednesday}
My top nine Instagram photos for the year. A little travel, a little bit of home, my banjo girl, and some board gaming. Yep, that sums things up nicely. Starting in the top left: * chocolate mice and other treats sold in one of the basement shops at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth. * my banjo obsessed girl practicing for her Christmas concert. * trying a new board game at … [Read more...]
Halloween Town {Wordless Wednesday}
When we visited last November I snapped a couple of photos of one of my favourite parts of Bronner's Christmas Wonderland (in Frankenmuth, Michigan) -- the large set ups of wee Halloween houses and decorations. … [Read more...]
Racing Vultures at African Lion Safari
One of the highlights of our visit to African Lion Safari back in September was when Rainbow got chosen as a volunteer during the Birds of Prey show. And she got to race with vultures. Only she was too distracted with staring at the birds to actually run fast, and ended up way behind all the other kids taking part. Still biggest grin ever, think she had a good … [Read more...]
This Kid Plays Hard…
Here's what my kindergartener looks like at the end of the school day. That's not sunshine dappled across her jumper and leggings, that a fine coating of grey dirt. I send her off at the beginning of the day wearing barrettes, with tidy hair, a nice outfit, clean face and hands... And at the end of the day this filth monster steps off the bus coated head to toe in dirt and … [Read more...]
Yo Blossom {Wordless Wednesday}
This is the outfit my grade three girl picked for school the other day. She asked me to take a photo. She's really proud of the new hat she coerced me into buying her. Her style sense, and her pose, ah this girl... she cracks me up. … [Read more...]
Meeting a New Wildflower
We went for a nature walk last weekend and I snapped tons of photos; photos of my kids, of wildflowers, of bees and dragon flies. My kids want to know the name of every plant and creature we see. My wildflower knowledge peters out somewhere around Cornflowers and Queen Anne's lace. One of the flowers that peeked my interest was this light pink-purple beauty, which seemed quite … [Read more...]

Finishing the Puzzle
Note to the Easter Bunny: A 1000 piece puzzle is not actually age appropriate for the 7 year old (or maybe even this 40 year old). Our team effort took an entire Sunday. No exaggeration, we spent the entire day on this darn puzzle and barely finished in time for bed. "Grown up" puzzles are a bit more challenging then I remembered, that's for sure. … [Read more...]
