On the Road to Freedom, Quest for my Driver’s License Part 2

December 5, 2011 by Deanna Tousignant Leave a Comment

So, how is the quest for a driver’s license going?  Well, I haven’t been feeling all that great lately. I had intended to have already taken my beginner’s test by this point, but it’s gotten put off over the past few weeks as I just try and scrape myself off the floor and get through each day. However, I am so not going to let this whole blood sugar thing deter me from getting my license. Unh-uh.

My first Young Drivers class is scheduled for December 10th. Even though you don’t technically need your Beginners Permit to start taking the classes, I would really like to have mine in hand by then.

Last night I finally picked up a copy of the Driver’s Handbook. The major thing holding me back from picking one up is I thought you could only buy it at a Ministry of Transportation office. Guess what? Not true! They carry the the book at Shoppers Drug Mart! So last night I hit the nearby Shoppers, and today it’s time to ht the books.

I want to read this thing cover to cover by the end of tomorrow, and I want to get my permit by the end of the week. That should be do-able, right?

I have one major trick up my sleeve. I’ve been practising with Young Drivers Learner’s Practise Test.

Yep, Young Drivers has an awesome Learner’s Permit Preparation Test on their website. It’s free and it’s available to everyone, regardless of whether you’re currently taking classes with them or not. The interactive test consists of 20 multiple choice questions and 20 road sign recognition questions. They provide feedback on your answers as you enter each response. Then at the end of the test you get an overall score.

Practising with the Young Drivers Learner’s Permit Prep Test is helping me learn the rules of driving, and it’s also putting me at ease for my upcoming “real test” to get my Beginner’s Permit. Check it out, it’s pretty cool. Even if you already have your license, it’s a fun way to gauge how well you know the rules of the road.

So, what do you guys think? Beginner’s Permit by the end of the week, achievable goal, or no?

Disclosure: Young Drivers is sponsoring this series of posts documenting my journey as I work towards getting my driver’s license by providing me with free access to the Young Driver’s Defensive Driving Program.
